Knights and Squires
Camelot Knights
Children ages 6-18 may swim for the Camelot Knights. Practices begin the Tuesday following Memorial Day. Daily weekday practices are in the afternoons until school is out. When FCPS lets out, practices are held in the mornings. Some evening practices may be offered during the summer for those swimmers unable to attend regular morning workouts.
The Knights participate in two different level meets -- Saturday morning “A Meets” and Monday evening “B Meets.” Swimmers compete by stroke in 5 age groups: 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. Participation in “A Meets" is determined by the coaches and is based on swimmers' times and availability. "A Meet" entries will vary week to week. “B Meets" are open to all swimmers. Swimmers choose their own 2 events and can also swim individual medley. If a swimmer placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event in the prior “A Meet" they must choose a different stroke.
Camelot Squires
Squires is the developmental team for our youngest members, and is a fun introduction to swim team. The goal of the Squires is to increase stroke development and endurance so that our Squires become Knights in future years. Squires are usually 4-8 year olds who are ready to swim without assistance from an instructor and without using a flotation device. Squires practice every weekday morning for four weeks starting June 19th. The Squires end their season with their very own “Lollipop Meet”. You can find more detailed information on Squires here.
*This swim requirement is for the safety of our children and is not intended to exclude anyone. We are simply not adequately staffed for a large group of non-swimmers.
Q: Why summer swim?
It’s great fun! There are very few opportunities where children ranging in ages from 5-18 can all participate on a team together. Summer swim provides a unique opportunity for your child to develop as a swimmer, make friends, and be a part of a community team with kids of all ages. The team includes swimmers who are fairly new to the sport, returning summer swimmers, and year-round competitive swimmers. Regardless of swimming skill level – there is a place for everyone on our team!
